The Four Eras
ActuFutur organizes its transmissions according to four great eras, each with its own distinct technological, social, and environmental context.
Transition Era
Humanity lives its final decades in "classical" form. Artificial intelligences become ubiquitous but are not yet officially conscious. Climate change forces major adaptations. The first permanent lunar settlements exist.
Post-Carbon Era
The energy transition is complete but climate damage persists. The first Martian colonies become autonomous. The first conscious non-biological entities are officially recognized (Geneva Declaration 2067). Miami, Venice, and Shanghai are abandoned.
Synthesis Era
Humans and synthetic entities coexist as partners. Humanity has become multi-planetary. Quantum information teleportation is commonplace. Biological bodies can be "backed up." The very concept of identity is redefined.
Post-Singularity Era
The boundary between biological and synthetic has become blurred. Benevolent superintelligences help solve cosmic problems. Part of humanity explores other star systems. Time itself is understood differently.
